Medway Council’s Planning Committee unanimously resolved to grant full planning permission for new student accommodation for Rochester Independent College on 9 March 2022.
The application is for the construction of a four storey student accommodation building (Class C2) comprising 85 bedrooms (including two for staff), a common room, café, laundry, medical rooms, and offices.
The proposed development includes the demolition of part of the rear of the A.F Smith building and car workshop, allowing the construction of part brick, cladded and mesh flat roof building to create a courtyard.
The site is located between The High Street and Furrell’s Road. DWD worked closely with various agencies including Natural England, KCC Archaeology and Historic England; they worked with Clague Architects to develop the proposal and the layout and design reflect the local townscape.
“We are delighted that the planning application was successful,” Emma Penson, Senior Associate at DWD said. “This allows Rochester Independent College to expand the accommodation and facilities available to its students.” For more information contact Emma Penson or James Smith.
