Adjacent Building Works Reduces Office Value
Background
Our client, Apple Europe Ltd, occupy offices in Cambridge. We were asked to review the business rates assessment.
Challenge
The survey data and underlying assessment were reasonable. We therefore needed a different approach.
DWD Service
Chris Baker, a member of the DWD Business Rates Team, lodged appeals to argue that the redevelopment of an adjacent building had an adverse impact on the value of the building occupied for the duration of the works.
Outcome
We succeeded in arguing that the basis of valuation should be reduced by 10% on all of the floors occupied by Apple, saving our client a significant amount in liability terms.
