EXPERIENCE
Big Yellow Self Storage, Kings Cross
DWD is acting for Big Yellow Self Storage in relation to their proposals for a mixed use development on York Way, Kings Cross. The scheme includes a self storage centre, flexi-offices and new offices and small business units to meet the needs of growing businesses emerging from the Tileyard Studio cluster. The scheme is being prepared jointly by Big Yellow and CPP (City and Provincial) who operate Tileyard Studios, an internationally significant creative industry cluster.
DWD are currently working closely with the project team, advising on the planning strategy and negotiating with Islington Council to prepare a scheme which is acceptable in planning terms. This has included close liaison with the architects, technical and political advisors.
DWD are leading the preparation of the planning application, preparing the Planning Statement and reviewing and coordinating the other application documents. This has included advice on CIL and likely S106 contributions.
Key issues include the provision of office uses within a Locally Significant Industrial Site (LSIS) and townscape justification for a tall building.
The scheme is evolving through discussions with Islington Council and an application is due to be submitted in early 2018.
