EXPERIENCE
Drax Biomass Conversion, North Yorkshire
DWD provided planning support to Drax Power Limited in respect of its proposals to facilitate biomass co-firing at its 4,000 megawatt coal-fired power station near Selby in North Yorkshire, through the conversion of three of the existing six generating units from coal to biomass.
DWD secured planning permission for new biomass handling, storage and distribution facilities, including biomass storage domes and new road and rail infrastructure. The three units have been converted to biomass with Drax considering a fourth unit for conversion. The three operational biomass units account for around 70% of the electricity Drax produces and around 16% of the UK’s total renewable power.
