EXPERIENCE
Keadby 2 Power Station, North Lincolnshire
DWD is advising Keadby Developments Limited (KDL), a subsidiary of SSE Plc, on it proposals to construct a new combined cycle gas turbine power station (CCGT), known as Keadby 2, on land adjacent to its existing Keadby 1 power station in North Lincolnshire.
Consent was granted under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 in September 1993 for a 710 megawatt (MW) CCGT power station as the site. Although the consent was implemented it had not been fully built out. Due to advances in CCGT technology, which has meant CCGT units are now able to achieve greater electrical outputs, and the need to make changes to the consented plant configuration, KDL instructed DWD to vary the consent. DWD has subsequently secured consent for two variations; the first to increase the generation capacity to 820 MW and the second (granted in December 2017) to 910 MW.
DWD has also obtained consent for new overhead electric lines under Section 37 of the 1989 Act to facilitate the connection of Keadby 2 to the existing National Grid substation at the site.
