EXPERIENCE
Quantum Saves Over £1/4m
Background
Our client Inditex, the world’s largest retailer, expanded the footprint of their Zara branded store in Bluewater, Kent.
Challenge
To use the reconfiguration of the retail units to reduce the liability.
DWD Service
Jeff Norris, a member of the DWD Business Rates Team, lodged appeals to argue that the basis of valuation previously adopted on the constituent parts of the new shop was inappropriate given the size of the retail unit formed by the merger.
Outcome
We succeeded in arguing that the basis of valuation should be changed from the typical zoned approach, used on the majority of shops within the shopping centre, to an overall approach. The appeal resulted in a saving of c.£280,000 over 3 years.
