One of DWD’s projects has been showcased as a case study in the Planning Inspectorate Annual Report and Accounts. Our planning team, led by Colin Turnbull, Partner, was part of the close-knit team including AECOM and Pinsent Masons on the South Humber Bank Energy Centre (SHBEC) project.
The project’s DCO submission date coincided with the onset of the pandemic which meant the team had to reassess the approach to the submission and develop innovative new ways to prevent the process from being delayed.
A detailed report was prepared by DWD to demonstrate conformity with the publicity regulations in force at the time, applied in the context of the early COVID-19 legislation. The examination close and decision were on time and a correction order was granted subsequently.
A key innovation was the use of AECOM drone footage to replace the typical site inspection during examination, improving safety. Consultees’ response to the drone footage was positive.
